Catechism Training
As part of our Mission and pastoral training, we send our thelogy students to different neighbouring parishes on Sundays to teach catechism. They take up the responsibility of teaching catechism and giving certain liturgical trainings to the students there. This arrangement provides good contacts with the parishioners and the parish priests, which may promote vocations to our monastery.
According to the situations of the Church in Kerala, such projects are beneficial to our students too. Our theology students are given chances for pastoral activites along their studies in the Abbey. We also receive catechism students on arranged weekends in the Abbey. The students of selected classes, with their teachers, come to the Abbey on weekends - they participate in all our liturgical celebrations and stay overnight in the Abbey. After some classes, they return to their homes on Sundays, with an 'Abbey experience'.
Along with these, our monks help the surrounding parishes in pastoral ministry, like helping parish priests during Christmas and Easter Season, celebrating Mass on Sundays, administering the sacraments when they happen to be absent etc. All these pastoral contacts do promote the vocations to our community.
